I recently saw the movie Cabrini produced by Angel Studios and even though I am not Catholic I really enjoyed it. It is a movie for all ages in my opinion and very clean but, it is PG-13. Frances Xavier Cabrini was born in 1850 in Sant'Angelo Lodigiano, in the Lombard Province of Lodi. Cabrini played by Cristiana Dell'Anna was a nun who suffered from lung disease that was caused by a drowning accident she had when she was a youth. She did not let her condition stop her from what she felt called to do with her life. She wanted to found her own missionary order, but the Pope instead sent her to New York to assist the Italian Immigrants telling her that since the world was not large enough for what she wanted to do she can start in New York and eventually work her way to China. She was born with such tenacity and she did not let the fact of being a woman in the 19th century where sexism was a constant battle for her to overcome, deter her from any mission she wanted to accomplish. Once in New York Cabrini settled into five points, New York City's notorious slum which was known for its violence, crime, and poverty. I also learned of the prejudices against Italian Americans of which I was not aware. Cabrini went on to open hospitals, orphanages, schools, and missionary institutions. It was a very entertaining movie and I only hold one thing against it. The movie did not once speak about Jesus which I was very surprised about since it was a religious movie, I did not hear Jesus mentioned at all. It would have been nice to tie that in there but overall it was very interesting to learn about her life and works.
