Have you ever paused to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us in our daily lives? Among the hustle and bustle of modern living, it's easy to overlook the little miracles that unfold before our eyes. I have always been fascinated with myrtle trees. There's just something about the way it looks that mesmerizes me. I adore the different colors of the blooms and the hot-pink blossoms from a crape myrtle are my favorite. Call me strange, but I love it when the flowers shed their blooms and sprinkle the sidewalks and driveways and leave a colorful canvas. It brings so much color to the neighborhood.
Finding the Extraordinary in the Ordinary
This ancient plant had a crucial role in many civilizations. For example, in Judaism, the myrtle is called Hadassah. In the Bible, it is one of the four plants used to decorate the booths during the Feast of Tabernacles. You can find the reference to it in Nehemiah 8:15, which says, and that they should proclaim it and publish it in all their towns and in Jerusalem, “Go out to the hills and bring branches of olive, wild olive, myrtle, palm, and other leafy trees to make booths, as it is written."
The myrtle tree grows wild on Mount Carmel and in Upper Galilee and has many different uses both medicinally and ceremonially. One may look at the myrtle tree and think nothing extraordinary about it but I beg to differ. If it was chosen to be a part of God's holy feast then it is one remarkable tree.
Tapestry
In the tapestry of life, God's beauty is intricately woven into every thread, waiting to be discovered by those with eyes to see, hearts to appreciate, and ears to hear. As we navigate the ups and downs of daily life, let us remember to look for God's beauty in the ordinary moments – for it is there that we will find the little reminders of God's goodness. The next time you see a myrtle tree, think of how wonderful God's creation is and how much of an honor it is that He entrusts us to watch over it.
